Evaluation of fuel consumption reduction strategy in touristic metropolises (Case study: Mashhad city)

Message:
Abstract:
Due to the cheapness of fossil fuels in Iran, fuel consumption and gasoline consumption are high, especially in the transportation sector. This causes energy losses as well as increased air pollution in the country. Due to the fact that most domestic travels are used by private cars, touristic metropolis such as Mashhad is facing more problems with high fuel consumption. In this research, four strategies to reduce fuel consumption in the Mashhad metropolis, including fuel pricing, fuel quota, alternative fuel supply and traffic congestion pricing were investigated and ranked. Based on the results, the traffic congestion pricing solution with a weight of 0.37 was considered the most suitable solution for reducing fuel consumption in touristic metropolises. Prioritization of these strategies was performed using Network Analysis process (ANP). Based on the results, traffic congestion pricing solution with a normal weight of 0.37 was considered as the most appropriate solution for reducing fuel consumption in tourist metropolis. The criteria for increasing the rate of inflation, changing travel vehicle and travel cost were recognized as the most effective criteria for this assessment.
