Inspecting the Meaning of the Terms “Imra’at”, “Nisga’a “and “Couple” in Qur’an: Its Application in Consolidating Couples’ Relationships

Family foundaon has specific value in each community. Furthermore, Islamic doctrine bestows a significant status to family. Among the words related to couples’ relaonships, the three terms of “Imra’a, Nisa’a and couple” have significant funcon in Qur’an. Every single term in Qur’an implies an exact and specific connotaon which significantly influences the understanding of divine meaning and the deducon of Islamic doctrine related to different aspects of individual and social life. The study of these three terms is also important in discovering the Qur’anic viewpoint considering the relaonships between couples. Hence, by applying a descripve-analyc method this paper, inspected these three terms both in terminology and in Qur’an, it revealed the factors implied in Qur’an for consolidang couples’ relaonships. The findings show that the use of the terms “Imra’at “ and “ Nisa’a “ in Quran refer to purely material and physical relaonships; whereas the use of the word “couple” refers to both material and spiritual aspects of relaonships among couples. It is noteworthy that, from the perspecve of Qur’an, whenever there is a moral and religious reconciliaon between the couples or whenever they have a child or have aspiraon and expectaon for having a child, the term “couple” is used, and whenever one of the two foresaid part is damaged, the term “ Imra’at “ is applied.
