Study on the association of Epstein - Barr virus with breast cancer in Khorramabad breast cancer patients, Iran

Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world, and early diagnosis of this cancer is a key factor in its treatment. This cancer is a multi-stage disease, in which viruses can play a role. EBV is known as an important factor in the development of some human cancers. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between Epstein-Barr virus, EBV, and breast cancer. Thirty-two paraffin blocks from patients with lung mass or breast tumor were collected from Khorramabad Shohada Aschary Hospital. Thirty normal individuals with the same age were selected for the control group. Extraction of EBV-DNA was performed using Sina Clone. To evaluate the DNA quality extracted from the nano-droplet and PCR, samples were used for the presence of the beta-actin gene. Then appropriate samples of EBV-DNA were evaluated for PCR. Data was analyzed by the chi-square test and SPSS.16 software. Of 32 samples of breast cancer, 11 cases (34.3%) and 30 controls (2.6%) were positive for the presence of EBR-DNA in the Chi-square test. Cancer and control had a P-value of 0.002, which showed a significant correlation between the Epstein-Barr Virus and breast cancer. In this study, the relationship between the presence of the Epstein-Barr virus and breast cancer in women with this condition is significant in Lorestan province, which indicates that Epstein-Barr virus can be one of the reasons for breast cancer, although more epidemiological, biological and molecular analyses will be required It is necessary to clarify the mechanism for the involvement of this virus in the carcinogenicity process.
