A review of recent treatment of urticarial in children and adults

The prevalence of allergic disorders, such as urticaria or hives, has increased over the decades. The exact etiology of allergic diseases is unknown, but genetic and environmental factors contribute to it. Allergic diseases carry a lot of financial burden on the family and society. Urticaria, especially the chronic type, has a significant effect on the quality of life of patients. We searched on various sites such as Google, pubmed, uptodate and Scopus. The search was carried out with keywords including urticaria, chronic urticaria, treatment and guidelines. The basis of treating each illness is to recognize its cause and resolve it. This is a fact that antihistamines in most cases improve the symptoms of urticaria in children and adults and have few complications; they’re considered by all guidelines as the first line of treatment. Second-generation antihistamines are preferred. In most cases, patients respond to first-line or second-line drugs (antihistamines), and the need for third- and fourth-line drugs is very little (anti leukotrienes, Omalizumab and immunosuppressives).
