Correlation of the Use of Health Information Systems with Nurse- Patient Relationship; Mediating Role of Perceived Organizational Justice

Abstract:
Introduction
The use of health information systems can have positive or negative effects on the relationships between nurses and patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between the use of health information system and nurse-patient relationship with mediator role of perceived organizational justice.
Methods
The present study is descriptive-correlational. The statistical population consisted of 272 nurses of Amir al-Momenin Hospital in Isfahan. Using the available sampling method, the data were collected from 160 persons using three questionnaires: “System Use Questionnaire”, “Nurse-Patient Relationship Questionnaire”, and “Justice Questionnaire Organizational Justice Questionnaire”. The face, content and construct validity was performed using verifiable factor analysis. Reliability was measured by Cronbach's alpha coefficient and composite stability. In order to analyze the data, SmartPLS M2.0 software was used.
Results
The use of health information system has a positive and significant correlation with organizational perceived justice and its components as well as with nursing-patient communication (P<0.01). Perceived organizational justice (P<0.01) and its components have a positive and significant correlation with nurse-patient relationship (P<0.01). Only correlation between the relationship between procedural justice (P<0.05) and nurse-patient relationship was statistically significant (0.95).
Conclusions
The use of health information systems has a significant correlation with patient-nurse-patient relationship with the role of mediator of perceived organizational justice. Hospitals managers are recommended to use hospital information systems to improve the relationship between nurses and patients. Improving nurses' perception of organizational justice in the hospital environment can also promote relationships between nurses and patients.
