Abstract:
On the eve of the advent of the Safavids, the monastery of Ardebil wasthe focus of the gathering of Sufis in different regions. With theformation of the Safavid government and the establishment of the Shiareligion by Shah Isma'il I, the city of Ardabil was the center of the rapidreligious development of this period. Considering the attribution of theSafavids to the Ahl al-Bayt (AS), the shrine of Sheikh Safi al-Din in thisperiod has a great spiritual position and draws many pilgrims from allover Iran and the surrounding territories to this side. What caused thecity of Ardabil in the Safavid period along with holy cities such asMashhad and Qom as a religious pole in the country, is one of the issuesthat this research seeks to respond to. The reasons for the lack ofcontinuity of this religious position are other issues that will be examinedusing historical data and analysis. It seems that the recognition of theShi'a religion by the Safavids who originated from Ardabil and theexistence of the tomb of Sheikh Safi in this city were the main factorsbehind the achievement of Ardabil in this religious glory. In thisdescriptive-analytic study, these issues will be examined
