Design and evaluation of local ventilation system and packed bed scrubber and control of hydrogen sulfide emitted from the dryer lines of a Pulp Industry

The diffusion of pollutants Methyl Mercaptan, Hydrogen Sulfide, Dimethyl sulfide and Dimethyl disulfide from dryer machines of pulp industries will cause to smell annoyance and health effects on the employees and neighbors . This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of local ventilation system and packed bed scrubber implemented for controlling the emitted hydrogen sulfide from a pulp industry. In this study , the concentrations of emitted pollutants into the breathing zone of workers and work environment In 2 active and inactive condition of the ventilation system and before and after scrubber, the effectiveness of the system designed to control the hydrogen sulfide gas was evaluated. The efficiency of the local ventilation system was 55% in reducing the individual exposure to the dryer lines. The efficiency of the packed bed scrubber in removing hydrogen sulfide from the gas stream was 91.7% in the purificator output. The results showed that the local ventilation system with packed bed scrubber has a good effect on the control of hydrogen sulfide emitted from the dryer lines and this system can be a good option for such industries.
