Assessing the Competence of Using English Language Learning Strategies in the Context of English for Policing Purposes

The English learning strategies competence in the context of English for specific purposes (including English for Policing Purposes) has recently been taken as an area of research in English language acquisition. Identification of language learning strategies, the extent of their use in the context of English language learning, and learners' use of language learning strategies can facilitate learners' language acquisition. Therefore, this study is an attempt to use the descriptive methods and a questionnaire for examining the strategies used in the field of English language learning among learners of English for Policing Purposes. The required data were obtained through the distribution of a standardized questionnaire among the population. Research showed that students studying English for Policing Purposes are more likely to use metacognitive strategies. While they showed the least frequency in using affective strategies, they are of the greatest importance for English for Policing Purposes learners. In general, these learners also use English language strategies at the medium level. The research offers suggestions for English teachers who work in the field of English for Policing Purposes.
