The Mediating Role of Efficient and Non-Efficient Coping Strategies on Relationship between Positive and Negative Perfectionism with Sport Burnout

Present study aimed to study the mediating role of efficient and non efficient coping strategies in relationship of positive and negative perfectionism with sport burnout. Methodology was correlation. 120 participants were selected mono cluster sampling thorough semiprofessional footballers in Tehran. Data were collected using questionnaires of Lazarus's coping strategies, Terry-short & et al's perfectionism and Maslach's burnout and analyzed by tests of Pearson correlation and stepwise regression. The results indicated that there is a significant relationship between positive and negative perfectionism with sport burnout in semiprofessional footballers and efficient coping strategy negatively and non efficient coping strategy positively mediate in relationship positive and negative perfectionism with sport burnout (P<0.01). Results provide some evidence to suggest that the mediating role of efficient and non efficient coping strategies in relationship positive and negative perfectionism with sport burnout was partial. Efficient and non efficient coping strategies reduce the effect of positive and negative perfectionism on burnout, but this effect wasn't complete. Therefore, in order to reduce sport burnout was suggested to attend to athletes' perfectionism and prompted efficient coping strategies
