The investigation of the spraying of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) and Nano chitosan on the properties writing & printing (W&P) Paper

The objective of this study was to investigate an experimental spray coater for coating cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs)/ nanochitosan suspensions on writing and printing (W&P) paper in order to improve the barrier and mechanical properties. The results of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) analysis showed that the mean diameter of CNFs and nanochitosan were 28±10 and 40±10 nm, respectively. For coating of paper from CNFs at two levels (2 and 4%) and nanochitosan (0.5 and 1%), apply with constant spray conditions such as spray time (20 seconds) and spray distance (20 cm) was applied to papers and some of its properties were measured according to the TAPPI standard. The results showed that coating CNFs / nanochitosan by spray method can improve barrier and mechanical properties of W&P papers. Overall, the use of this coating method can be achieved with better advantages than the auto bar coater method in upgrading W&P papers with potential features.
