Sustainable Tourism with a Focus on the Revitalization of Dezful Handmade Structures

 Sustainable tourism is a comprehensible approach requiring long-term progress in tourism industry, without any destructive impact on natural ecosystems. Urban sustainable tourism follows two important principles, reclamation of cultural resources and economic growth, which cannot be achieved without planning. In an attempt to overcome the severe climate conditions in the region, the people of Dezful have started to build climate-accommodating structures without needing fossil fuels for heating and cooling processes to protect the environment. Shavadoons, remainder Qomeshs, Sarbetaghs and Kats are some special Troglodytic Architecture monuments remaining in the region for subduing the climate conditions of Khoozestan. The aforementioned structures would sometimes act as connected complexes and are like underground cities or roads to escape from sever climate crisis and using them had been common practice until contemporary times. The present study attempts to introduce the Troglodytic Architecture monuments, discuss the multiple factors important in formation of these traditional structures and revive the functionality of this type of architecture for practical usage and transforming them to underground walk roads of tourism industry. The methodology of data collection in this study is based on field activities, library studies and interviews with experts and people who have used this kind of architecture on daily basis. The method of research in the present study is a combination of historical-descriptive-analytical explanations. The results indicate that using these native structures in tourism industry has positive economic, social, cultural and environmental advantages for the region and the local community.
