Perceived Social Status and its Organizational, Managerial and Political Predictors among Faculty Members

Perceived social status was regarded as a psychosocial process that could be efficient for faculty members ' science and professional lives. This research aimed at investigating perceived social status and its organizational, managerial and political predictors among faculty members in one of the universities of Tehran province. The research design of this study was a correlation. Participants were 135 individuals from one of the state university in Tehran which selected by the convenient method. Data was collected by Scale of Subjective Social Status (Porter, Leeman, 1961), Perceived Organizational Support Questionnaire (Eisenberg., et.al, 1986), Perceptions of Politics Scale (Kacmer, Ferris, 1991), and Participation in Organizational Decisions Scale (Steel, Mento, 1987). Findings showed that % 40 of participants believed that the social status of faculty members was decreased. Correlational and regression model revealed that participation in organizational decision-making (% 13), perceived organizational politics (% 3) and perceived organizational support (% 1) could predict perceived social status. It seems that increasing involvement by faculty members in university choices, offering political room based on justice and tolerance and improving mental and physical assistance could boost perceived social status and create prestigious lifestyles.
