Abstract:

The purpose of this research study is to identify and understand risk factors in female offenders’ lives. This research is based on the phenomenological method. For this purpose, in-depth qualitative interviews have been conducted with 24 women with criminal sentences and imprisonment records. The results show that most of the women interviewed had experienced various forms of violence and harassment during their lives, and were often found either homeless or were from inefficient and disrupted families whose parents or first-degree relatives had a history of convictions and imprisonment or drug addiction. Also, some of these women had used drugs when they committed the crimes. In addition to the above, the socioeconomic status of women, type of occupation, family disorders, the lifestyle of women, are among the risk factors that are effective in the context of life for female offenders. However, the results of this study are not generalized in any way because of the small sample size.
