Economic Appraisal of Biotech Products Application in Production Chain of Broiler Industry

In this study, it has been attempted to determine the economic value of using biotech products in the broiler production chain through applying economic parameters. In order to achieve the research objectives, the required information of costs and income of a 45,000-unit poultry farm was investigated in 2015. Results of examined scenarios showed that through the best scenario (2), the maximum annual profit of 12085 million Rials would be created. Also, with the introduction of biotechnology in the broiler production chain, on average, the cost per kilogram decreased 29% compared to the baseline scenario. In addition, the results showed that beneficial effect of biotechnology in broiler production chain in an optimistic scenario of 50% realization, is equivalent to 3.74% of the agricultural sector's value added, which is a significant percentage. Therefore, based on the findings of the research, in addition to the use of biological inputs of corn and soybean production as the most important elements in the broiler diet, also supplements and bioadditives lead to the creation of extra value in the broiler production chain.
