Relationship between perfectionism and academic procrastination :the mediating role of academic self-efficacy, self-esteem and academic self-handicapping.

The main purpose of this study is examining the relationship between perfectionism and academic procrastination by mediating role of academic self-efficacy, self-esteem and academic self-handicapping. Participants for this study included 393 students andThestudy’s samples were consisted 235 male and female students of Babolsar high school who were selected by random cluster sampling. In order to assess the variables, each participant completed Frost multidimensional perfectionism scale, Morgan- Jinks student self-Efficacy scale, Rosenberg self-steem scale, Schwinger& Stiensmeier-Pelster academic self-handicapping scale and Solomon &Rothblom procrastination assessment scale for Students.The data were analyzed using path analysis. According to the results, goodness of fit Index, demonstrated well for the model. The results showed that self- efficacy and self- handicapping were mediator between relationship of negative perfectionism and academic procrastination, but the direct and indirect relationship between positive perfectionism and academic procrastination is not significant. Also positive perfectionism was related with academic self-efficacy, self-esteem and academic self-handicapping directly and direct relationships with academic self-efficacy with self-esteem, academic self-handicapping and academic procrastination were significant and academic self-handicapping direct relationship with academic procrastination is significant but a direct relationship between self-esteem with academic procrastination and self-handicapping is not significant.
