Position of ISIS in Security of the Foreign Policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council in the Middle East
As a terrorist group, ISIS has had a significant impact on developments of the Middle East, so that the formation of ISIS and its subsequent developments could be regarded as one of the milestones in the Middle East. This terrorist group is now recognized as one of the security issues in the world and in the Middle East, which has particularly affected the foreign policy of the Persian Gulf states, i.e. the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Islamic Republic of Iran. In this regard, the present study aimed to assess the position of ISIS in the security of the foreign policy of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Islamic Republic of Iran as two effective variables. The main research question was: “What are the components that make secure the political environment of the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East?” The research hypothesis was as follows: “Ideological and geostrategic competitions between political systems of the region and the rise of ISIS as a terrorist group have exacerbated security approaches in the region”. The results of this study indicated that the increased regional violence in the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East was caused by the support of some members of the Gulf Cooperation Council for the growth of Takfiri thoughts and the formation of groups such as ISIS in the region. . The present study used a descriptive-analytical method and the data were collected through the library method.
