The Effectiveness of Group Counseling Based on Motivational Interviewing on Employees' Organizational Citizenship Behavior
In today's highly competitive world, organizations are constantly looking for new methods to improve the performance of their employees.
The main purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of group counseling based on motivational interviewing on employees' organizational citizenship behavior.
The research method was semi-experimental with pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of this study was all employees of the Hadid Sazeh Pishro industrial group, which worked in 2018. To complete the questionnaire, all staff completed organizational citizenship behavior questionnaire. Then, among those who had a lower score than others, 24 subjects were selected and divided into two experimental and control groups, randomly. Then, group counseling based on motivational interviews was held in 18 sessions, two hours a week for two sessions for the experimental group. During this period, the control group did not receive any intervention. After the sessions were completed to measure the effect of intervention, again, both groups were taken the post-test. To evaluate the impact of intervention during follow-up, two months after the implementation of post-test, re-evaluation and of staff was undertaken. Data were analyzed by SPSS-22 software with one-way multivariate and covariance analysis.
Findings of the present study indicated that the group counseling based on motivational interviewing had a positive impact on employees' Organizational citizenship behavior (P<0.01). So that the mean scores of the staff in the experimental group in the post-test and follow-up stage were significantly increased compared to the control group.
In this research, the effect of group-based motivational interviewing counseling on the promotion of employee's organizational citizenship behavior has been confirmed and this can help managers of different organizations to prepare and plan appropriately to improve the organizational citizenship behavior of the staff.
