The Place of the Causality Principle in Islamic thought (with Emphasis on Allamah Tabataba'i's Views)

The causal or cosmological argument is of importance for both theology and anthropology and the issues surrounding the two. From a theological point of view, the principle of causality, at least in terms of the effect of basic rationalization, being the cause for the result of reasoning, is the basis of all arguments proving the essence of oneness. From an anthropological point of view, the relation of this principle to the unity of actions and human discretion prompts the subject that is the foundation of many anthropological basics. Therefore, the discussion of the issues of causal principle has been among the most central and crucial topics of Islamic philosophy and thought from the beginning. Among the scholars and philosophers of Islam, the principle of causality is the basis of all other arguments. In the new era, some scholars have raised doubts about the principle of causality in order to prove it false. For this very reason, contemporary Islamic philosophers have paid a great deal of attention to explaining this fundamental principle. Allameh Tabataba’i, as one of the greatest scholars and philosophers in his works, has examined various aspects of causality. This article, by the method of library study, seeks to answer this general question: What is the place of acceptance and belief in the principle of causality in Islamic thought? Therefore, first, the principles and generalizations of the viewpoints of Islamic philosophers and theologians regarding the principle of causation are mentioned and, with a greater emphasis on the views of Allameh Tabataba’i, the query shall be answered.
