Abstract:

Rationality, the idea of basing speech, action, and thought on reason or the practicing of reason, is one of the major individual, social and civilizational issues. The purpose of this study is to critique the various dimensions and components of the conventional notion of rationality based on the immaculate figures (The holy prophet and the Shiite Imams, PBUT). For the purpose, by studying the available documents, first, the literature on the subject contains various definitions and classifications offered for the concept of rationality in the field of social and Islamic sciences has been investigated; then, a conceptual framework has been extracted based on these sources. In the next step, the existing narratives about reason and its derivatives have been elicited by reference to major books of narratives. In the end, the frameworks gained through the content analysis of narratives and other literature have been analysed together. The results demonstrate that, according to the narratives from the immaculate figures of Shiite Islam, the essence of rationality in their view is but correct vision, moderate inclinations and attributes, and just action
