Evaluation city sidewalks with an emphasis on urban utility(Case study: Rasht)

Today, rise of cities and urbanization and consequently increasing use of cars and public transports not only increase their destructive effects on the urban environment, but also make many problems for the health of city-dwellers. One of the most important factors in reducing these adverse effects is creating ideal spaces for walking in urban environments. City of Rasht, capital of Gilan province, has the most density of population due to it's temperate climate and fertile land among cities of Iran, so the importance of proper sidewalks to encourage walking in the city seems to be necessary. The aim of this study is to evaluate three main pedestrians of Rasht by prioritizing urban utility components. The method is based on descriptive – analytical method. The results show that on the basis of prioritized and effective criteria and sub-criteria on the quality of the space walk, Motahari sidewalk has the highest quality and Shariati and Imam Khomeini sidewalks have the next levels in terms of quality components of walking space.
