Investigation into the effectiveness of Acceptance based integrative therapy on marital adjustment and marital discord in couples diagnosed with OCPD
The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the acceptance therapy integrative approach on marital discord and forgiveness in couples diagnosed with Obsessive – compulsive personality disorder (OCPD).
The statistical population of this study were couples in which one or both partners were diagnosed with OCPD. For the purpose of this study, 20 couples (N=40) with the inclusion criteria were selected through convenience sampling and were equally and randomly assigned intro two groups of experimental and control group (N=20). Participants in both groups were administered two questionnaires as pre-test including, (1) Dyadic Adjustment Scale and (2) Marital Satisfaction Inventory, Revised: screening for marital discord. While the participants in control group received no treatment in waiting list, the couples in the experimental group participated in a twelve session- two hours each – ACT-based integrative psychoeducational course delivered once a week. After the final session both groups were administered the questionnaires as post-test.
The Data was analyzed using Covariance analysis the result of which shows that experimental treatment was effective on improving Marital Discord (F=6.393) and Marital adjustment (F=7.302) in the participants (P<0.01). Conclusion. The finding of this study has some insights for researchers and reactionaries in the field of clinical psychology and family counseling.
