Nursing care in bariatric surgery
Bariatric surgery is performed only after other nonsurgical attempts at weight control have failed. This article is an attempt to offer common techniques of bariatric, pre and post bariatric care and some points essential for nurses and patient.
This is a review article that conducted on bariatric and nursing care through library electronic and search of sites, PubMed, Sid, Elsevier scientific references of the years 2005-2015.
Bariatric surgery in patients with BMI is greater than or equal to 40kg /m2 done without surgical problems. After surgery for morbid obesity complications such as bleeding, biliary reflux, obstruction of the outflow tract of the stomach or intestines, dumping syndrome, dysphagia, infection, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, leakage from the anastomosis and mental and behavioral disorders may occur which can be Special nursing care, and the necessary training to help patients that have minimal side effects and positive impact expected results will be achieved.
Because bariatric surgery is a severe change in the functioning of the digestive system are created, patients in need of counseling before and after surgery and nurses as a part of main team of bariatric surgery, must enhanced their knowledge on caring for such patients and play a significant role in trainings needed to achieve the expected goals and life performance enhancement of patients after bariatric.
