Investigating the Relationship Between Managers’ Leadership Style and Organizational Health (The CaseStudy of Police Leadership in Hamedan)

Abstract:

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between managers’ leadership style and organizational health in Hamedan police departments in 1391, which has been brought under consideration for studying a main hypothesis and four sub-hypotheses. The study’s population comprises all police personnel located in the city of Hamedan (N=750). The method used was stratified sampling. Using Cochran formula, sample size of 197 was calculated. The validity of the questionnaire’s items were accepted by scholars and experts and its reliability for leadership style and organizational health indicated 0/81 and 0/83 Cronbach’s values respectively. For hypothesis testing and data analysis, descriptive analysis including mean analysis and percentile, and inferential analysis including Pearson correlation and linear regression were conducted. Results demonstrated that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between all leadership styles and organizational health except for transactional leadership. In addition, 52/5 percent of the changes in organizational health can be accounted for by changes in participative and laissez faire leadership styles. Friedman test results indicated participative leadership style and fundamental level- aspect of fundamental unity are of utmost importance in leadership style and organizational health; therefore, a relationship between leadership style and police organizational health can be positively asserted. At the end, some suggestions for improvement of organizational health of police departments are given which can be of help in revisiting the relationship between manager’s leadership style and organizational health and results in the highest level of organizational health.
