Development Strategies in the Preparatory Approach of the Eastern Border Regions of Iran(Southern Khorasan)

Physical planning (landscaping) is all systematic activities that man uses to organize and regulate his physical or geographical environment. Since land is a limited and vulnerable resource and must be organized with sound and rational management, identifying environmental bottlenecks and capabilities is one of the needs of land planning plans. In fact, land preparation is a smart response and environmental management, security and sustainable development of social welfare in different geographical areas of the country. Preparation of border areas is the spatial organization of border areas in order to optimally exploit these areas in the national interest and within the framework of national security and development. South Khorasan province covers 9.2% of the total area of the country with an area of 150/1177 square kilometers, which is the third largest province in Iran. The province also has a particular geopolitical position in eastern Iran with 331 kilometers of common border with Afghanistan. This province, unfortunately, is one of the deprived provinces of Afghanistan despite its shared border with Afghanistan, huge mineral resources, strategic location in the east of the country, good natural conditions and many tourist attractions. This article reviews and identifies the environment, capabilities and spatial organization, challenges and appropriate solutions for the eastern border regions of Iran (South Khorasan). The main question of the paper is what are the most important challenges and threats of South Khorasan province? And what measures should be taken in planning and managing the province? The main purpose of this research is to examine the documents for achieving a general framework and guidelines for more detailed studies in this province. This research, with a descriptive-analytical approach and documentary study (library, interview, internet) and SWOT model, has explored the possibilities and capabilities of border regions, ecological potential characteristics, analysis and finally summarizing an approach for planning at the management level of these areas.
