A Look at the Necessity of Supporting the Development and Activation of Border Markets from the Perspective of Combating Trafficking in Eastern Iran

The country's borders have always been the center of trade and commodity exchanges. These exchanges may take place legally or illegally. In the event of a communications infrastructure and the freedom of commerce, the exchanges are legal and in the absence of legal exchanges, they are unlawful, which is called trafficking. Border dwellers are often people who do not have the proper background for healthy employment and therefore engage in smuggling and illegal income-generating activities. The present study seeks to emphasize the need for more attention to the activation of cross-border markets as a preventive factor for different types of trafficking. The results show that many of the country's eastern-oriented border markets have been shut down despite massive financial and intellectual investment by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which requires further efforts in the field of economic diplomacy of Iran.
