The Perfectionist Educational Principles and Methods in the Qur’an with an Emphasis on Sūrat al-Luqmān

Determination and execution of the educational principles and methods is affected by the world-view and ideology governing the educational system. By delineating the “goodly pure life” and showing the way to achieve it, the Holy Qur’an has made use of various principles and methods to create motivation for achieving this goal. Aiming at enumerating these components of the Holy Qur'an, the present research has emphasized on Sūrat al-Luqmān. To this end, first the existing valid interpretations and translations of this Sūra have been scrutinized. Then, such Concepts as "fundamentals", "principles", and "educational methods" have been dealt with and the relation between them has been clarified. Further on, given the logical relation between these elements, the initiative proposition of the guidelines for perfectionist educational methods corresponding to them are elicited. Finally, the article is organized into five principles and seven educational methods with a conceptual-analysis method and practical syllogism and by employing Frankena’s reconstructed pattern, including: teaching logical thinking and instructing wisdom “based on rational elucidation principle”, moderation in speech and manner “based on moderation principle”, giving glad tidings and warning “based on glad tidings principle”, enjoining good and forbidding wrong “based on admonition principle”, observance of nature and pondering about it “based on the principle of recognizing the religious law (sharī‘a) with nature”.
