Evaluation of the potential of coastal tourism in the north of Iran using second and third generation bio climatic indices

Coastal tourism has rapidly developed in recent decades. Weather and climate are one of the important factors for pleasant tourism. So the aim of this research is the presentation of tourism climate potentials on the coasts of the north of Iran in relation to coastal tourism. Two bioclimatic indices named TCI as the second generation and PET as the third generation were applied to the evaluation of thermal comfort in these coasts. This descriptive-analytical study was carried out on the six coastal meteorological stations in the southern coastal line of the Caspian Sea that their daily and monthly meteorological data were used (1361-1395). TCI and PET determined the best time in a year for satisfying tourism. According to these indices and seawater temperatures, early July and early September are superior to other times in order to coastal tourism. Late June to early July and also early and mid-September is suitable for both coastal and non-coastal tourism. There are two convenient time periods for other tourism destinations, May to late June as the spring tourism and then October to November as the autumn tourism.
