Economic evaluation of added cycling Corridor with Benefit-cost analysis

Motor vehicle traffic congestion and environmental problems caused by it are one of the biggest concerns of today’s urban societies that attention of transportation planners and managers has led to develope and promote non-motorized transportation. Expansion facilitate and improve the culture of cycling is an achievable solution which can convert bicycle as a healthy mode to alternative to personal vehicles for short trips within the city. However, it seems about the effectiveness of expansion a new cycling corridor is still uncertain and spending on cycling infrastructure compared to investment in roads is not a priority. Benefit-cost analysis can be a decision-making tool in this context. In this study, to create a cycling corridor with a length of 2.2 km in Esfahan economic evaluation was performed with benefit-cost analysis and the benefits of creating this special path for 5-year plan period, were obtained more than the total cost of construction and maintenance.
