A comparison study of aberrant driving behavior and accident involvements among addicted, under treatment and non-addicted drivers

The aims were comparing aberrant driving behavior and the number of accidents of addicted, under treatment and non-addicted drivers; also, the relationship between aberrant driving behavior and number of accidents for each group. A total of 144 volunteer participants filled Driving Behaviour Questionnaire and a demographic questionnaire. Results indicated that addicted and under treatments drivers reported higher rate of aggressive violations, errors and lapses in driving and a higher number of accidents than non-addicted drivers. Also, there was significant relationship between number of accidents and driving violations among addicted drivers. For under treatments accidents were related to driving ordinary violations, aggressive violations, errors and lapses. The implications for granting or renewing driving license to addicted individuals are discussed.
