A Comparative Study of Ideational Metafunction in Persian and English Lullabies
The antiquity of the lullabies of the nations is unidentified, but undoubtedly lullabies have been transferred from the earliest literary constructs to oral creations. In the lower layers of these folklore poems, there are hidden facts that require deep thought to be understood. This study investigates Persian and English lullabies from the ideational metafunction point of view. Given the assumption that events are reflected in language, we believe this research can provide a comparative analysis of the discourse of the afore-mentioned lullabies’ texts. The findings indicate similarities in the use of physical, verbal, and mental processes in lullabies of the two countries. Accordingly, women's social roles, their levels of activism and responsiveness, and a measure of positive and negative expectations were extracted from the texts of the lullabies.
