Successful treatment of the proximal metatarsal fractures (Splint bones) second and fourth at a mixed breed mare in field conditions

A 5-year-old Turkish-Arabs Mare was presented with left hind limb severe lameness. The vital signs were normal and there was no specific Underlying disease. Radiological assessments showed an oblique and closed fracture of the second and fourth metatarsal bones (splint). The patient was placed under general anesthesia and the limb was put in the cast. Recovery from an uncomplicated anesthetic was performed. After 8 weeks The patient had incomplete Weighing with moderate lameness. For another 8 weeks’ recommendation was made on physiotherapy. After 16 weeks of fracture, complete weighing and mild lameness were observed.
