Hz. Ruqayyah in the Ancient and Medieval Sources up to the End of the 7th/ 13th Century
The name and mention of Hz. Ruqayyah count as a purest sentimental mention of Imam al-Husayn's movement. Great Muslim figures and historians from the first to the seventh/ 13th century have dealt with her in their works. The present paper seeks to investigate the relevant historical evidence regarding her presence in Karbala on Ashura and her tragic martyrdom in Damascus. The elegies composed by Sayf b. Umayrah in memoriam Imam al-Husayn, his being a companion of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, plus his being regarded as a reliable hadith relator by al-Najashi, the reports of al-Bayhaqi in Lubab al-ansab, Ibn Tawus in his al-Luhuf, and Imad al-Din al-Tabari in Kamil of Bahayi, the conclusions prove her existence and presence in Karbala.
