Investigation of technical characteristics of trawls and gillnets in Bushehr province, Persian Gulf

This research was carried out within two years (2016-2018) in Bushehr province due to limited information about the fishing and navigation equipment of the traditional fishing fleet. For this purpose, 10% of gillnet and trawl vessels were selected randomly as a sample and then technical characteristics of fishing tools were investigated. Also, their navigation and safety equipment were considered. The results showed that trawl and gillnets are not in compliance with standard regulations. The investigated trawl nets showed that their mesh sizes were smaller than defined sizes for these nets. The results showed that vessels are in moderate condition in terms of navigation and safety equipment. According to the obtained results, development, and implementation of comprehensive regulations of standard fishery tools in the traditional fishery community is necessary.
