The effect of optimism training on the mental health of mothers of children with hearing impairments aged 2 to 10 years
Hearing impairments are the most common sensory-neurological impairment in humans, and about one in every 1,000 children is born with severe to profound neuropathy. The educational role of the family in childhood is more than other times. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of optimism education on the mental health of parents of children with hearing impairments aged 2 to 10 years. This research is a kind of research-experiment that has been done with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the study consists of mothers of children with hearing impairments aged 2 to 10 years who were trained in the Ava-e-center of Koohdasht city in the academic year of 1994-95. For this purpose, a sample of 40 mothers of deaf and hard of hearing children aged 2 to 10 years were randomly divided into two experimental groups of 20 and 20 controls. Goldberg and Hiller (1979) Mental Health Questionnaire and Shearer and Carver (1985) Natural Optimism Questionnaire were used to collect data. The mothers of the experimental group students were trained in 10 sessions. To examine the results in the descriptive statistics section, the mean and standard deviation are presented and discussed in the inferential statistics section.
