The aim of conducting present study was comparing early maladaptive schemas and basic needs in orphan and normal adolescent. This was a descriptive-comparative (correlational) research type. Statistical Society of this study included all adolescents’ districts 3 of Tehran. In this society, 80 adolescents who were studying in seventh, eighth and ninth grades were selected as sample that 40 persons were orphan and 40 persons were normal. The Sampling of both groups was available sampling. Selected samples responded to short form questionnaire of early maladaptive schemas and Needs Basic Questionnaire. In order to analyze data, descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics such as analysis of variance were used. The data analysis showed that there is a significant difference between orphan and normal adolescent in the components of early maladaptive schemas such as emotional deprivation, abandonment, mistrust, failure, dedication and emotional inhibition at p<0/05. The results indicated a significant difference between two groups in the needs basic in the components fun, love and the need to survive (p<0/05). Significant difference between orphan and normal adolescent indicates that early maladaptive schemas and basic needs are effective psychological components in emergence of mental health problems for orphan adolescents. Accordingly, providing appropriate conditions in childhood to satisfy basic needs of orphan adolescent is essential for better growth and immunity and prevention of psychological problems in orphan children.
