Abstract:
“Fish & Cat” is a film directed by Shahram Mokri in 2013, this article is going to survey on the Dominant Element in the film based on the views of Russian neo-formalists. To achieve this, we have used Jakbson’s idea, Dominant Element, and according to Russian Formalists we have expanded it to determine the meaning. The methodology of the research is descriptive analysis and in order to analyze the relations between minor narratives & the “Red Colour”, we have used descriptive correlation method as well. This could help us to reach different layers of meaning. Breaking down the scenes & shots in “Fish & Cat”, together with their analysis, led us to the fact that the red colour has a very determining role & it is as one of the most important dominant elements. This dominant element is not only effective on other aesthetical structures but also unites minor narratives (with two extensions in the plot). Thus, the red colour in interaction with other elements directs audience towards the climax of the story. This colour in addition to having referential aspects in the globe, regarding the enigmatic issues such as suspension & excitement, it also conveys fear, expectancy and mishappening.
