Allocation management is one of the main and well-known strategies in sustainable agricultural development that prevents destruction of the natural resources. The present research was undertaken to evaluate and compare energy flows in Alfalfa farms in different regions of Alborz province. The indices of energy ratio, net energy gain (NEG), specific energy, energy productivity (EP), energy intensity, and total input and output energies were calculated. The statistical population included all of the farmers in different regions of Alborz province in 2013. The studied sample included 241 farmers growing alfalfa in the agricultural sector of Alborz province. Results indicated that, in four studied districts including Eshtehard, Karaj, Nazarabad and Savojbolagh approximately 65% of the energy input was assigned to the fuel and seed for the cultivation of alfalfa. The highest and lowest EPs were found to be those of Savojbolagh and Nazarabad districts (0.095 kgMJ-1 and 0.076 kgMJ-1, respectively). Among these four districts, Eshtehard had better conditions in terms of NEG (39241.9 MJha-1), energy intensity (6.554 MJm-2), and specific energy (10.571 MJkg-1), compared to the other three regions. In total, results of the research showed that the Alfalfa farms at Eshtehard exhibit more efficient energy consumption, indicating that their farmers have had better management regarding energy Consumption.
