The Effects of Concept Mapping Method on Learning of Skills to Manage Pre-eclampsia in Midwifery Students
Concept mapping as a strategy facilitates thinking, teaching, learning and evaluation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of concept map training on learning preeclampsia management skills in midwifery students.
This experimental study was conducted with a two groups, pre-test post-test design, which was performed on 60 midwifery students of Mashhad college of nursing and midwifery in in the second semester of 2016-2017. The participants were randomly divided in to two groups of training based on the concept mapping method and the traditional education) lecture method and powner point. (Clinical skill of preeclampsia control in both groups before and two week after the intervention was assessed using the clinical test of preeclampsia (six stations). Data were analyzed using SPSS software and descriptive and analytical statistical tests.
The results showed that the mean score of clinical skills of preeclampsia management in both groups was conceptual map (56.2± 2.3) and traditional method (42.9 ± 2.4) two weeks after the intervention had a statistically significant increase compared to before the intervention (P <0.05) and the mean score of clinical skills in the concept map training group was more than the traditional method group (P <0. 001).
Clinical skills training based on concept mapping method causes better performance of midwifery students the care process and can be used to improve the quality of midwifery studentschr('39') clinical skills.
