Perspectives of Nurses and the Elderly Hospitalized Patients Eegard Respecting the Human Dignity of Elderly Patients in Educational and Medical Centers of Golestan University of Medical Sciences in 2019
Patient dignity is a very important component in nursing care and it is considered very valuable by patients. This study aimed to determine the views of nurses and hospitalized elderly patients regard to respect for the human dignity of elderly patients.
This descriptive-analytical, cross-sectional study in 2019 was performed on 102 hospitalized elderly patients and 102 nurses in the teaching and medical centers of Golestan University of Medical Sciences non-random sampling. The data collected by the patient dignity questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS v18 and independent t-test, Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, and ANOVA tests.
The mean and standard deviation of nurses and patientschr('39') dignity scores were 102.06±13.22 and 71.15±20.42 respectively and this difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).
Nurseschr('39') views were more positive in comparison with elderly patients regarding their observance and dignity of the elderly patient. In all areas, nurses scored higher than patients. The results of this study can help managers and officials to adopt appropriate strategies and policies to respect them and the dignity of the hospitalized elderly.
