Mutual Information Approach in University-Industry Collaboration in Transition to Third Generation Universities in Iran

In line with the requirements of third-generation universities, the purpose of the present study is to examine the current situation in order to find out the possibility of developing cooperation between university and industry based on the contribution of research outputs from this collaboration.
In this research, a triple helix model and mutual information approach were used for analyzing data. A total of 2107 articles derived from the three sources of the Science Citation Index (SCI), the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and the Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A & HCI) in the Web of Science database in the period 2008 to 2017 relating to the Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz.
From the subject point of view, the fields of medicine, agriculture and engineering have the highest rate of university and industry co-publication. From the spatial map of the structure of scientific collaboration between universities and national and international research institutes we find the highest co-publishing rates in the national institutes, cities of Tehran and Ahvaz, and in the international institutes, the two countries, USA and Sweden, have the highest co-publishing rates with Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz.
Conclustion: Despite the growing trend of scientific production at Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, the limited interaction and synergy between the three pillars can be considered as one of the main weaknesses of the dynamics and development of technology and innovation in this university. This assumption is also true in studies of universities throughout the country. For this reason, universities in the country in general, and Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz in particular, should move on to transition to the third generation Universities development and promotion, to address issues such as commercialization of scientific products and specific policies, and a culture of co-operation and co-publishing Promote for more efficient results.
