The comparison of eight weeks of high intensity interval training vs. continuous training on the genes expression of IL-6 and CRP in adipose tissue of diabetic Rats induced by high-fat foods and fructose
Adipose tissue plays an important role in type 2 diabetes pathogenesis by secreting different adipokines such as IL-6 and CRP. Regarding the role of physical activity in reducing inflammatory factors and uncertainty about the most effective models of training, the aim of the present study was to compare the effects of eight weeks continuous and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on the IL-6 and CRP gene expression in adipose tissue of type 2 diabetic Rats.
21 male Wistar rats after induction of type 2 diabetes (with seven months of high-fat diet containing 30% fat and 25% fructose) divided into three groups including control, continuous training and HIIT. Continuous and HIIT training program performed at eight weeks and five sessions per week. IL-6 and CRP expression determined by Real Time PCR assay. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and Tukey post-hock test and significance was p≤0. 05.
Significant decrease of IL-6 expression in HIIT and continuous training groups were observed compared to the control group (p<0.001), and decrease in IL-6 expression was significant in HIIT than continuous training group (p=0.022), the decrease in the continuous and HIIT group were 0.38±0.09, and 0.62±0.06 respectively. In addition, CRP expression decrease in both trained groups was significant compared to control group (p<0.001), the decrease in the continuous and HIIT group were 0.66±0.10, and 0.59±0.06 respectively.
HIIT seems to be more effective in reducing adipose tissue inflammation than continuous training.
