Fats are one of the most important sources of human nutrition that supplies 30% of the body's calories. High serum level of cholesterol and triglyceride in the blood increases the risk of heart attack. Based on the glycosidic and anthraquinone properties of jujuba, this study was conducted to determine the effects of jujube fruit aqueous extract on serum cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations in the Wistar rats. In the present experimental study, 40 adult Male rats were divided into for equal groups (n=10) including the control, Hypercholesterolemia and two experimental groups, which was treated with 150 and 250 mg/kg body weight of Zizyphus jujuba aqueous extract. All animals were treated as gastro gavage for 12 weeks. After blood sampling from the animal’s heart, cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations were measured. Data were analyzed by SPSS using ANOVA and TUKEY test, (P<0.05) considered as significance level. Data suggested that the fruit extract reduces cholesterol and triglyceride concentration in the treatment groups. Due to the effect of aqueous fruit extract to decrease the serum level of Cholesterol and Triglyceride in Hypercholesterolemic rats, attenuation of lipidemia is one the therapeutic effects of Zizyphus jujuba which was investigated in this study
