Investigating the generation gap between youth and parents and solutions to eliminate it

Today's society of our country, due to the process of modernization in social relations, has a favorable environment for the growth of the generation gap. The purpose of this study is to investigate the generation gap between youth and parents in Khoy city and solutions to eliminate it.

The research method is descriptive survey. The statistical sample was 384, which were selected by simple random sampling, of which 192 questionnaires were completed by parents and 192 questionnaires by young people. To collect information, a questionnaire was used to assess the differences between the two generations of parents and children, which was developed by Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Nabavi. This questionnaire evaluates the difference between the two generations in 9 dimensions. The reliability of the questionnaire was obtained using Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.78. Independent t-test and SPSS software were used to analyze the data.

There is no significant difference between political values and religious activity of the two generations of youth and parents, but there is a significant difference between cultural, social, economic values, general values, marriage and family norms, behavioral norms and attitudes of youth and parents.

This gap can be bridged by close and intimate relationship between reference groups and cultural authorities and young people and efforts to understand their needs and provide material and spiritual support and answer their doubts.
