Sociological Investigation of the Effects of Cyber Space on Leisure Styles of Women Students (Case Study of Women Students of Isfahan University)

Purpose and context:

 The purpose of this article is to investigate the effect(s) of the amount and types of using of cyberspace on the types of leisure styles of women students of Isfahan University. In theoretical frame and basis, Bourdieu's theory of leisure style, Gerbner theory in the media effects and Giddens theory, which is compared relationship between leisure style and media, were used.

This study was a quantitative research using the survey technique. The population, which was considered for this study, was women students of Isfahan University. The data collection means is questionnaire, which included 384 women students of Isfahan University, who were selected through systematic random sampling.

For extraction and detection of different types of leisure style, factor analysis has been done on a combination of leisure style (leisure, body management, food and consumption) and after that, 6 different types of leisure style were used, which are such as fashion, sports, religion, science, artistic-musical, modern leisure style, unhealthy leisure style, ordinary daily leisure style.

Based on the results of the data, it is found the amount and type of using of cyberspace has a significant effect on students' leisure styles. Keywords: Social Networking, Lifestyle, Leisure Style, Cyberspace, Leisure, women Students.
