An Evaluation of the Status of Study among Working Study of Communication Skills of Librarians of Public Libraries of Kashan and its Association with Demographic Characteristics

Abstract:
Purpose

The purpose of this study is to determine and compare the communication skills and their relationship with demographic characteristics in librarians in public libraries of Kashan.

Methodology

This research was conducted using an analytical survey method, and data collection tool was Queendom's interpersonal communication skills Questionnaire. The statistical population of this study was the librarians of institutional public libraries in Kashan, a total of 40 people (total librarians). Validity of the questionnaire has been verified by confirmatory factor analysis and its reliability has been calculated and validated by calculating the Cronbach's alpha with coefficient of 0.84. Data analysis is done by SPSS software at two levels of descriptive statistics (percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (variance analysis).

Findings

The findings of this study showed that librarians of public libraries of Kashan have a moderate communication skills status. In such a way, these individuals in the component of insight toward the communication process are desirable and in relation to the three components of communication with decisiveness, emotional control and the ability to receive and send messages are at moderate levels and in relation to the listening skill component are weak. Also, the results of the analysis of variance for each of the demographic characteristics with the communication skills are confirmed, so the relationship between them is confirmed. It should be noted that there is no correlation between the listening skill and the demographic characteristics of the statistical test.

Conclusion

The results indicate that there is a relationship between demographic characteristics of librarians of public libraries in kashan such as age, gender, education and service history with the level of their communication skills and their average communication skills are in a moderate state.
