An Investigation of Literary Texts Study among Housewives and Employed Women in Rasht City

Abstract:
Purpose

The purpose of this research was to determine the amount of reading literary texts in housewives and employed women.  

Methodology

Research method is based on survey with casual-comparative nature in which amount of reading literary texts in housewives and employed women in Rasht city is compared and data was gathered via questionnaire. The research population consisted of all housewives and employed women in Rasht city.According to the Statistical Center of Iran, the population of these women was 83082. Using Cochran formula and based on random sampling, 382 individuals in age range of 25-45 were selected as sample.  

Findings

Findings show that internal factors such as amount of reading during childhood and youth (71.25%), amount of parents’ reading (46.40%), feeling the need to study literary texts (77.05%), marital status and tendency of husbands toward reading (52.40%) are effective factors.  

Conclusion

Also results show that there is a significant difference between occupation status, marital status, and level of educations with the study of literary texts.
