Analysis of the Process of Nation Building in Contemporary Iran; History and Process (Case study: Reza Shah's era 1925-1941)
With the advent of the new age, different countries of the world experienced waves of nationalism and, at the heart of it, nation-building. Iran also began a new process of modernization in various dimensions in order to establish the nation in the modern sense in the era of Reza Shah with the authority of the central government. Therefore, in an incomplete and superficial way, efforts were made by Reza Shah to develop the process of nation- building. But the process of nation-building has taken its course without regard to the infrastructure and mechanisms of democratic governance and through the repression and intimidation of intellectuals and political and cultural elites, the imposition of social-institutional, and ideological unification processes, and the inappropriateness policies against the values and collective identity of citizens. This study, has focused on the development of the process of nation-building in contemporary Iran, focusing on the era of Reza Shah, in the center of its attention and analysis. Given this importance, the main question of the present study is why nation-building, despite its relatively long history, has remained incomplete and unfinished. Research Hypothesis: It seems that nation-building in Iran, despite its relatively long history, during the reign of Reza Shah was carried out only in the framework of an imposed and superficial process and did not face the cooperation of elites and public acceptance. The research method in this article is based on causal explanation and it is classified as an applied research.
