A Study of the Foreign Policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards Russia after the Islamic Revolution (2020-1997)

The foreign policy of Iran and Russia has gone through different ups and downs, challenges, opportunities and events during different periods and has undergone different results in each time period. But what is important in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran after the victory of the Islamic Revolution is the policy that has neither put Iran under Western domination nor given the Russians a chance to have a new domination in Iran. Iran's principled policy in relation to Russia and the West in the last four decades is to maintain the slogan of neither the East nor the West, which is explicitly mentioned in the Constitution, so the country's independence is the main priority of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iran must use Russia's authority to advance its security, military, economic and cultural goals in the region. Therefore, an independent Iran and a powerful Russia, which can have significant cooperation in maintaining its interests by maintaining and expanding its relations, will most importantly cut off the hands of all Western and European countries that have no intention but to profit and benefit from their interests. The present study seeks to answer the question of what principles and foundations have been based on the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the last four decades after the victory of the Islamic Revolution and what achievements and goals has it achieved? The findings of this study show the efforts of both countries to normalize relations and expand and maintain interests and promote Iran's position in the region according to the policies implemented in these decades and most importantly to draw and advance the future at that level of cooperation. It has reached its maximum and both countries can have significant growth in the region in the face of sanctions and have no goal other than securing the region.
