Evaluation of knowledge of medical staff of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences about CPR of COVID-19 patients

Abstract:
Introduction

The emergence of COVID-19 pandemic has raised many concerns in medical approaches.One of these issues was that to what extent medical staff are able to safely perform cardiopulmonaryresuscitation (CPR), considering the high level of transmission of the infection. So, the aim of this studywas to evaluate the knowledge of medical experts in Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences about CPRof COVID-19 patients.

Methods

In this study, 129 people working in the hospitals affiliated to SabzevarUniversity of Medical Sciences, including nurses, physicians, and operating room and medical emergencyexperts were assessed. The checklist used consisted of 21 questions that assessed the knowledge of themedical experts about CPR of COVID-19 patients and the content validity of this checklist was confirmedby 10 specialist physicians. Also, some demographic variables were evaluated in the study, includingage, sex, work experience, history of participation in CPR workshops for COVID-19 patients, number oftimes attending the workshop, the hospital where they work, field of study, and degree, the associationof which with the score of each person in the test has been assessed.

Results

The study showed that therate of correct answers to the questions was directly related to the workshops held on resuscitation ofCOVID-19 patients, age, and work experience. Additionally, questions that were not correctly answeredby most participants were related to ventilation and intubation of COVID-19 patients. Evaluations showedthat the staff of Vaseei and Emdadi hospitals received higher scores than the staff of other hospitals.

Conclusion

Participating in the workshop was directly related to the level of knowledge of the staff anda better score. Mobini and Heshmatiyeh hospitals had lower scores than other hospitals and should paymore attention to training and holding workshops
