Presenting a model for predicting aggression in adolescents based on communication patterns and family cohesion with the mediating role of resilience
The aim of this study was to investigate the model of predicting aggression based on communication patterns, family cohesion with the mediating role of resilience in adolescents.
The research method was descriptive and structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the present study was all high school students in Tehran in the academic year 2019-20. The sample size was 500 students who were selected by cluster sampling method. Research instruments included the Resilience Questionnaire (Connor and Davidson, 2003), the Aggression Scale (Novaco, 1986), the Communication Patterns Questionnaire (Ritchie and Fitzpatrick, 1990), and the Family Cohesion Scale (Elson et al., 1985). Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data.
The results of the conceptual model test showed that the fit indices of the research model are in good condition (GFI = .95). Dialogue communication pattern, family cohesion had a direct negative effect on aggression (p <0.05). Also, the hypothesis related to the indirect effect of dialogue communication model, family cohesion on adolescent aggression due to resilience was confirmed (p <0.05).
Based on the research findings, families should provide conditions that all family members have the opportunity to express themselves and be able to freely and easily discuss various issues.
